Patience: A Series of Games with Cards compiled by Mrs. E.D. Cheney. “Let Patience have her perfect work” Boston USA
In her book Patience A Series of Games with Cards (third edition, Ednah Dow Cheney is the first English writer who writes about a game called Triangle which is a 2 deck solitaire that can be seen as the precursor of Klondike Solitaire.
Triangle is played with 2 decks of cards, the tableau is dealt in 14 piles and there are 8 foundation piles. The rules regarding the gameplay are almost similar to Klondike’s. In later books, we will find versions of Small Triangle Patience which is played with 1 deck of cards and where the layout is dealt exactly the same as in Klondike. There is no reference to Triangle as being a gambler’s Solitaire.
